Lamina Lamella
Lamina/Lamella was an immersive installation developed for A Gallery during a month-long artist residency in August 2014.
Measuring 12 x 7 x 14 feet, Lamina/Lamella utilized mixed media, including woven metal wire, vintage dress patterns, ping pong balls and other flotsam and jetsom. Large, surreal forms filled the walls and hung from the ceiling, so that the viewer/participant became part of the installation.
Inspired by nature and biology, Lamina/Lamella explored organic architecture and environment, where details seemed larger than life, and while one’s own body seemed to shrink in comparison, one’s perspective shifted accordingly.
A Gallery is a storefront art installation space adjacent to and supported by Integrus Architecture in Pioneer Square. The public reception was held in September. During the residency month of August, the public was free to come into the space and to interact and talk about the work as it was being made and installed.
